American moms (and dads) are working harder than ever, yet many aren’t happy with the direction of their lives. CafeMom co-founder Andrew Shue, husband and dad/stepdad to 5 kids, knows just how crazy life can get when you’re juggling work, family and children. In 2012 he created and cohosted a series of MadLife web casts with his mother-in-law, Joanie Robach, and Chuck Nice, a friend and well-known comedian from New York.
Now Joanie Robach and Mary Hawkins, senior editor at CafeMom and frequent guest on the show, join forces as they continue the discussion on how to improve their relationships, what it takes to feel better about themselves, and how to raise happier, healthier kids.
We hope you’ll join us as we look into our MadLife.
Introducing Joanie & Mary
Joan (Joanie) Robach is one of nine children, born and raised in Benton Harbor, Michigan during the 1950’s and 60’s. As a young girl, she dreamed of fame and fortune as lead vocalist in a really cool rock band. Lacking both talent and ambition, she found solace in singing along to her favorite songs on the radio.
Her careers have run the gamut from home builder to English teacher. She’s opened the door to a frozen gorilla (an actual, real gorilla), and survived a lightning strike. But her most thrilling adventures are with her high school sweetheart and husband of 45 years, her eight terrific grandchildren, and her children, Amy Robach, News Anchor of ABC’s Good Morning America, and Eric Robach, MD. While proud of their professional accomplishments, she prefers to brag about the selfless ways they serve others.
In her spare time she reads, writes, and thinks about exercising. She tries her best to refrain from giving advice, but with advancing age finds it nearly impossible. She lives near Atlanta, GA with her husband, Mike.
Mary J. Hawkins is an accomplished editor, writer, and social media expert who has been working in the digital media space since 2009. She is a happily divorced single mom of a very charismatic 11-year-old, and a pint-sized Shih-Tzu.
In a former life, she was the author and owner of The Mommyologist, a humor blog centered around the changes that happen after kids arrive on the scene. She is currently the full-time Senior Editor, Entertainment & Special Projects, for CafeMom, and has been a part of their team for over five years.
When she manages to find time to detach herself from her laptop, Mary leads an active lifestyle. She has a strong passion for travel and welcomes every opportunity to explore new places and experience new adventures. She is also a huge fan of yoga – though she doesn’t get to class quite as often as she’d like. When the northeast weather cooperates, you’ll most likely find her on a hiking trail, as she finds it impossible to sit still.
Mary lives in a small town in the middle of Connecticut, though she’d rather live in the city, on the coast, or a combination of both.
